  3. Recommended: An engineering fluid mechanics textbook. These are well-respected reference books:

Course Description:

Fundamentals of fluid behavior with an emphasis on water. Covers basic fluid properties, flow classification, and fluid statics including forces on submerged surfaces. Introduces and applies fundamental relationships: conservations of mass, momentum, and energy. Hydraulic applications include flow in pipes and pipe netwroks, steady flow in open channels, and hydraulic machinery. Co-requisite: CENG 141L.

Course Goals:

One of the goals for this class is to foster the skills needed to be self taught learners. Not all of the information that you need to know will be presented in lecture. I will presume that you are acquiring some through your own reading and study. In addition, you will be encouraged to refine your professional style of solving problems and presenting solutions in excellent written form. Part of the homework will be dedicated to solving problems in a clear and complete professional style.

The grading structure for this class is (it may be adjusted during the first half of the course):

Homeworks, quizzes and class participation: 15%
Midterm Exams (2) and quizzes 50%
Final Exam 35%
